Active transport
The movement of molecules against their concentration gradient (from low concentration to high concentration), which requires energy from the cell.
Active process
A cellular process that requires energy to move molecules.
Special proteins
Molecules that sit in the cell membrane and transfer specific molecules from one side to the other during active transport.
Cellular respiration
The process responsible for all energy that the cell uses, occurring in the mitochondria by breaking down glucose.
Mitochondria
The organelle where glucose is broken down to release energy used for active transport and other cellular functions.
Concentration gradient (in Active Transport)
The direction of movement from a region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration.
