cellular respiration
process that living things do which converts food energy into ATP energy

aerobic respiration
Respiration that requires oxygen; happens in the mitochondria of the cell

anaerobic respiration
Respiration that happens when there is no oxygen. This produces lactic acid, and happens in the cytoplasm of the cell

yeast
unicellular fungi

ATP
(adenosine triphosphate) main energy source that cells use for most of their work

Mitochondria
Powerhouse of the cell, organelle that is the site of ATP (energy) production

Glucose
the form of sugar that circulates in the blood and provides the major source of energy for body tissues.

lactic acid
product of anaerobic respiration in many types of cells, including human muscle cells

Circulatory system
system that provides a flow of nutrients and Oxygen throughout the body

respiratory system
system that brings oxygen into the body, so it can get into the blood cells. It also releases carbon dioxide

nervous system
system that detects high CO2 levels in the blood, and sends signals to the other two systems to pump the heart faster, and breathe faster

Arteries
Type of blood vessel that carries blood AWAY from the heart

Veins
Type of blood vessel that carries blood TOWARD the heart
