What was the inspiration for the subzero air purifier? And how does the air purifier work internally?

Inspiration based on a NASA purifier for food preservation. Also worked with research findings from the University of Wisconsin.

Inside the actual purifier:

Every 20 min turns on air goes through viruses and ethylene Gas.

The actual cartridge contains:

  • Activated carbon and other media to absorb odors and gases

  • A UV or similar light source that interacts with the media to break down volatile compounds (some descriptions mention UV-activated photocatalytic reactions, which is where terms like titanium dioxide sometimes come up in air purification discussions, though Sub-Zero doesn’t publicly specify TiO₂ as the core material)

  • Small internal glass tubes and parts that help the system work (users sometimes hear rattling inside the cartridge because of this).
