Professionalism
The conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or professional person.
Accountability
The ability to accept responsibility for one’s actions and be answerable to someone for something one has done.
CNO (College of Nurses of Ontario)
A regulatory body that governs nursing practice in Ontario, ensuring public interest is upheld through standards, practice and conduct.
NCLEX-RN
A registration exam that tests whether nursing candidates possess the knowledge, skill, and judgment for safe care in practice.
Tort Law
A branch of civil law concerned with civil wrongs, permitting compensation to those injured due to another's wrongful acts.
Duty of Care
The legal obligation of an individual to avoid acts that could likely cause harm to others.
Negligence
A breach of the duty of care that results in harm or injury to another person.
PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act)
Ontario legislation that governs the privacy of personal health information.
PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act)
Federal legislation that protects personal information in the private sector, including health information.
Standards of Care
