Public religious involvement
The congregational dimension of religiousness measured by frequency of attendance at worship services and the number of other members the respondent knows personally.
Private religiousness
The reflective aspect of religious involvement based on self-assessments of deep religiousness and the amount of strength and comfort a person receives from their religion.
Death-dip
A phenomenon identified by Phillips where mortality is considerably less likely to occur in the 6 months before a significant ceremonial event than in the 5 months after.
Functional disability
An indicator of health status measured by a 5-level Guttman scale that assesses physical performance and the capacity to perform daily self-care activities.
