T1 - State’s role in the economy means it must be removed (A), Collectivist
State control of the economy only protects wealthy
ACom Proudhon says state protects private property (property is theft, exploit workers surplus value). Only facilitates wealthy concerns, results in unequal exchange, creates inequality.
Removal of state allows people’s bank, run democratically by all workers, producers, consumers to provide low interest mutual credit to supplant role of state in economy.
Economy becomes possession based, prevent hoarding of wealth without contributing.
T1 - State’s role in the economy means it must be removed (A), Individualist
State is a constructs that limits autonomy though controlling economy.
E Stirner says state is a spook, detrimental social construct that limits autonomy (sov of individual).
State that forces individuals into factory work to pay taxes for the betterment of the state and not oneself goes against these principles, is utterly reprehensible thus should be removed. Is akin to enslavement therefore violation of sovereignty
Extends to state facilitating spook of property as a right. Should be allowed to take as you please, if in your own best interest.
T1 - State’s role in the economy means it must be removed (A), Overall
Agree to moderate extent, state facilitates economic system that undermines the worth of people it forces itself upon. Removal allows for economic freedom, though very different ideal system.
T2 - Role of capitalism (DA), Collectivist
Capitalism does not reflect existence as social beings.
ACom Kropotkin says Capitalism causes inequality (unnatural), distorts communal human nature. Proposes ‘Mutual Aid’, inclination to work together voluntarily for common good. Would prevent inequality, by establishing common ownership (opposite to capitalism). In turn no contradiction between class, society and individual liberty, food, goods and resources distributed according to need rather than moral/labour value. Basic necessities are human right.
ACom Goldman says capitalism is machine. Enslaves worker to new master (employer).
T2 - Role of capitalism (DA), Individualist
Capitalism reflects existence as economic beings.
ACap Rothbard says human nature rational, always seeking to improve condition (natural inequality). Would be best if all state functions provided through voluntary market based interactions (free market cap). Natural competition, profit-driven industry leads to innovation, lower costs, ensures consumer accountability. Extends to private property, all have right to acquire and control
T2 - Role of capitalism (DA), Extent
Diametrically opposing views on capitalism as economic system, disagree to large extent.
CCLN
Disagree to a large extent. Agree that economic system benefits from state removal, but present completely different ideas of what comes after, sig disagreements even within strands.
