PLUMBING
The Art & Technique of Installing PLUMBING SYSTEM including Potable Water (CWL), Sanitary Drainage System, and Storm Drainage System.
PLUMBING APPLIANCE
A special class of device or equipment.
PLUMBING APPURTENANCE
A manufactured device or prefabricated assembly.
PLUMBING FIXTURES
Approved-type installed receptacles, devices, or appliances.
ADMINISTRATIVE AUTHORITY
The individual or department that administers and enforces the NPCP.
ROUGHING–IN
Plumbing work completed before the settling of the fixtures or finishing.
MASTER PLUMBER
A Registered & Licensed Master Plumber (RLMP).
NAMPAP
Nat’l Master Plumbers Association of the Phils.
STOREY
That portion between the upper surface of any floor and the upper surface of the floor next above.
HEIGHT OF BUILDING
The measurement starting from the "Grade Line" to the highest point of the coping.
ALLEY
A passage measuring between 2−3 Meters.
COMBUSTIBLE CONST’N
Construction materials that burn at a temperature of 756∘C or less.
CONFINED SPACE
A space with a volume less than 1.4 cu.m.
UNCONFINED SPACE
A space with a volume equal to at least 1.4 cu.m of fuel-burning appliance.
CHASE
A vertical shaft, also known as pipe stacks.
SHAFT
A vertical opening for elevators, dumbwaiters, or air wells.
HIGH HAZARD
Contamination resulting in the impairment of potable water.
LOW HAZARD
Pollution resulting in the impairment of potable water.
POTABLE WATER
Water used for drinking, culinary, and domestic purposes meeting PH Standards for Drinking Water.
CORPORATION COCK
A stop valve placed in the service pipe closed to the connection with the water main.
GOOSE NECK
A return bend with one end 30 cm long and the other 7.5 cm long; acts as a lead connection between service pipe and water main.
SERVICE PIPE
The pipe extending from the water main to the building served.
WATER–DISTRIBUTING PIPE
Pipe that conveys potable water from the building supply pipe to the plumbing fixtures or water outlets.
HORIZONTAL BRANCH
A branch drain extending laterally from a soil or waste stack, with or without sections or branches.
HORIZONTAL PIPE
A pipe installed at an angle of not more than 45∘.
VERTICAL PIPE
A pipe installed at an angle of more than 45∘ with the vertical line.
BRANCH INTERVAL
A measurement based on storey height equal to 8 Feet or 2.43 M.
RISER
A water supply pipe that extends vertically one full storey or more.
BIBB
A term synonymous with faucet, cock, tap, or plug.
SPIGOT
The end of a pipe which fits into a bell; synonymous with faucet.
EFFECTIVE OPENING
The minimum cross-sectional area at the point of water supply discharge.
FLOOD LEVEL
The level at which water begins to overflow the top or rim of a fixture.
CRITICAL LEVEL
C-L or C/L marking on a backflow prevention device that determines the minimum elevation above the flood level rim.
FLOODED
The condition when liquid rises to the flood level rim.
STATIC PRESSURE
The pressure exerted by a liquid without any flow motion.
RESIDUAL PRESSURE
The pressure available within a system during flow.
PUMP
A device that produces a vacuum within itself to lift water from a source by atmospheric pressure.
AIR CHAMBER
A component used to minimize pulsating discharge from a pump which results in uneven flow.
RANGE BOILER
A type of tank used for domestic hot-water supply.
GATE VALVE
A valve where flow is cut off by a circular disk at right angles to the flow direction.
GLOBE VALVE
A valve where flow is cut off by a disk that fits against the valve seat through a tortuous passage.
ANGLE VALVE
A valve that makes a 90∘ turn.
CHECK VALVE
A valve used to prevent the flow of water in a reverse direction.
BACKWATER VALVE
A valve in a drainage system used to prevent reverse flow.
FOOT VALVE
A suction valve.
SAFETY VALVE
A valve from a boiler or pressure vessel that opens when pressure or temperature exceeds preset limits.
WATER SERVICE PIPE RATINGS
Materials must handle 160 psi at 73.4∘F.
cPVC
Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride.
PB
Polybutylene; black and oval; used for water service connections.
PE
Polyethylene; black and circular.
PVC
Polyvinyl Chloride; colored blue for potable water and gray, orange, or brown for drainpipes.
WATER DISTRIBUTION PIPE RATINGS
Materials must handle a minimum working pressure of 100 psi at 180∘F.
PIPE
A cylindrical conduit or conductor measured by its Nominal Internal Diameter (N.I.D.).
TUBE
A cylindrical conduit or conductor measured by its Outside Diameter (OD).
INVERT
The lowest portion of the inside of any pipe.
DEVELOPED LENGTH
The length measured along the center line of the pipe and fittings.
DEAD END
The extended portion of a pipe that is closed at one end.
CAULKING
The process of plugging an opening with oakum and lead.
OAKUM
Hemp soaked in oil or tar to make it waterproof.
BLIND FLANGE
A component used to close the end of a pipe.
SOLDERED JOINT
A joint made by melting material at temperatures below 427∘C but above 149∘C.
BRAZED JOINT
A joint made by melting material at temperatures higher than 449∘C.
SLIP JOINT
A connection consisting of a compression nut, friction ring, and compression washer.
NIPPLE
A pipe fitting less than $$12
