Community Health Nursing (ANA, 1980)
A synthesis of nursing practice and public health applied to promoting and preserving the health of populations.
Ruth B. Freeman's CHN Definition
A service rendered by a professional nurse with communities, group, families, individuals at home, in health centers, in clinics, in schools, and in places of work for health promotion, illness prevention, and care of the sick.

Education, Locally Endemic disease control, Expanded Program on Immunization, Maternal and Child Health, Essential Drugs, Nutrition, Treatment, and Sanitation.
Village/Barangay Health Workers
Trained community health workers, health auxiliary volunteers, traditional birth attendants, or healers.
Primary Level of Care
Health care devolved to cities and municipalities, including Barangay Health Stations and Rural Health Units.
Secondary Level of Care
Care given by physicians with basic health training in referral centers like District or Provincial Hospitals.
Tertiary Level of Care
Care rendered by specialists in facilities like Regional Medical Centers or National Training Hospitals for complicated cases.
Primary Prevention
Focuses on health promotion and disease prevention, such as immunization and healthy lifestyle promotion.
Secondary Prevention
Focuses on early detection and prompt treatment, such as Breast-Self Examination and diagnostic tests.
Tertiary Prevention
Focuses on rehabilitation to prevent further disability and restore the client's optimum level of functioning.
Health Deficit
A gap between actual and achievable health status resulting from disease, disability, or developmental lag.
Health Threat
Conditions that promote disease or injury and prevent people from realizing their health potential.
Foreseeable Crisis
Anticipated periods of unusual demand on the individual or family regarding resources and adjustment.
Triaging
Managing program-based cases according to protocols, referring non-program cases, and providing first-aid to emergencies.
Korotkoff Phase I
The first clear tapping sound representing the Systolic Blood Pressure.
Korotkoff Phase V
The disappearance of sound representing the Diastolic Blood Pressure.
Bag Technique
A tool used by the nurse to perform procedures with ease, save time and effort, and minimize the spread of infection.
Epidemiology
The study of the occurrence and distribution of health conditions like disease, death, or disabilities in human populations.
Vital Statistics
The systematic study of vital events such as births, illnesses, marriages, and deaths.
Incidence Rate
Measures the frequency of the occurrence of new cases during a given period of time.
Prevalence Rate
Measures the proportion of the population exhibiting a particular disease (new and old cases) at a particular time.
FHSIS
Field Health Services and Information System; provides summary data on health service delivery for monitoring and evaluation.
Tetanus Toxoid 2 (TT 2)
Administered 4 weeks after TT 1; provides 80% protection for 3 years.
Tetanus Toxoid 5 (TT 5)
Administered 1 year after TT 4; provides 99% protection for a lifetime.
Newborn Screening Schedule
Conducted between 48 hours up to 2 weeks after birth.
Milk Code (EO 51)
Covers breast milk substitutes including infant formula, other milk products, and bottle-fed complementary foods.
Expanded Breastfeeding Act of 2010
Republic Act No. 10028, promoting exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months.
EPI Law (PD 996)
Principles stating it is safe to administer all EPI vaccines on the same day at different sites and that the schedule shouldn't be restarted.
BCG Vaccine Administration
