New cards
Renewable energy
Renewable energy comes from natural resources that are naturally replenished, such as sunlight, wind, and waves. They are from nature and are sustainable.
2
New cards
Global warming
Global warming is the long term warning of the planets overall temperature.
3
New cards
Greenhouse effect
The greenhouse effect is the way in which heat is trapped close to earths surface by greenhouse gases. It keeps the earth warm so our planet can support life. However, some of this heat is trapped by the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Burning fossil fuels like coal and oil puts more CO2 into our atmosphere. This CO2 gets trapped in our atmosphere, trapping more heat and causing the climate to get warmer.
4
New cards
Greenhouse gases
Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide
5
New cards
Streamlining
To design something in a way that causes very little resistance to air flow or water. Streamline increases speed and eases movement.
STREAMLINING REDUCES FRICTION (AIR RESISTANCE)
6
New cards
the first law of motion
the first law is something that is still or will remain still unless a force is applied to it. the first law also states that an object that is in motion will continue to move in the same direction and same speed unless a different force is applied to it.
ex. a football wont move unless u apply a force to it.
7
New cards
the second law of motion
acceleration happens when a force is applied to an object. the heavier the object, the more force will be needed to accelerate the object.
8
New cards
the third law of motion
\- for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction -
this means forces work in pairs. For each force applied, another force will act in the opposite direction. If you let go of an untied balloon, the air will come out in one direction and the balloon will fly off in the opposite direction

New cards
4 forces
* gravity * friction * magnetism * buoyancy
10
New cards
gravity
gravity is the force that keeps us and other objects on the ground. It is also the force that keeps all the planets orbit around the sun.
11
New cards
friction
friction is the force that stops or slows us when trying to move an object.
12
New cards
air resistance
air resistance is a type of friction that occurs between the air and another material.
13
New cards
magnetism
magnetism is the force that occurs when a magnet pulls a metal object or another magnet.
14
New cards
examples of magnetic materials
Iron nickel cobalt
15
New cards
What are also called fossil fuels
coal oil and natural gas
16
New cards
Non renewable energy
non renewable energy comes from natural resources that are not naturally replenished such as coal and natural gas.
17
New cards
buoyancy
is the force that pushes an object upwards in a fluid.
