Number of species in an area you are sampling

Sucks in insects to count and identify them

Flying insects, or invertebrates in water

Problems if it rains as animal drowns, other animals can eat insects

What is the issue with capture,mark, release, recapture?

Can attract predators for smaller animals or insects

How is a point quadrant used?

Pins dropped through holes and the plants that the pins touch are recorded

How do you measure the abundance of animals?

Capture, mark, release, recapture, record the number of marked and unmarked individuals each time

Equation for abundance?

Estimated population size = number of individuals in first sample x number of individuals in second sample / number of recaptured marked individuals

What are the types of transects?

Line = tape measure is placed along the transect and the plants it touches are recorded

Belt = data is collected along the transect using quadrants

Why is capture recapture not appropriate sometimes?

Only works well in large populations, can be dangerous and animals may die
