Differential relay
Protective relays that operate on the principle that the current entering and the current leaving a section are equal normally but unequal when fault develops within the section.
Phase angle meter
An ac device used to measure the angle between the voltage and its current.
Point of contraflexure
The point in which the bending moment changes sign through a zero value.
Coke
What is a coal that has been previously burned in an oxygen-poor environment?
Entropy
The measure of randomness or disorder in a system.
Annuity
A series of uniform amounts over a period of time.
Steiner’s theorem
The parallel axis theorem for second moment of area.
Yellow alert
A notice issued by the System Operator when a tropical disturbance is expected to make a landfall within 24 hours.
Base load plants
Plants designed to supply power at high capital cost and low operating cost.
White iron
A type of cast iron that is hard and wear resistant.
Phosphorus
The most undesirable of all the elements commonly found in steels.
Open circuit test
A test conducted on transformers to determine core losses.
Critical path method
A network model that enables engineer managers to schedule, monitor, and control large and complex projects by using only one time factor per activity.
Device number 51
The device number for AC time delay overcurrent relay.
Contestable customer
A customer with a demand of at least 1MW as specified by the Energy Regulatory Commission.
Pascal’s Law
The law stating that for a confined fluid, the pressure at a point has the same magnitude in all directions.
Annuity due
A type of annuity where the payments are made at the start of each period, beginning from the first period.
Curie point
The temperature at which ferromagnetic materials can no longer be magnetized by outside forces.
Lenz’s law
The law stating that at every instant the direction of secondary current in a transformer must be such as to oppose any change in flux.
Latus rectum
In an ellipse, a chord which contains a focus and is in a line perpendicular to the major axis.
Liquidity
The ability to convert assets to cash quickly.
Foreign Reciprocity
The term used when an American citizen is allowed to practice their electrical engineering profession in the Philippines.
Adiabatic process
A process where no heat is transferred.
EPIRA
Republic Act No. 9136.
Device number 87
The device number for differential protective relay.
Market value
The amount that a willing buyer will pay to a willing seller for a property where each has equal advantage and is under no compulsion to buy and sell.
Parabola
The conic section having an eccentricity equal to 1.
ACSR
Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced.
Short circuit resistance
The resistance value of a short circuit, which is 0.
Transformer primary-secondary resistance
The expected resistance between the primary and secondary windings, which is infinity.
