Imperialism

Anglo-Saxon superiority
The belief in the superiority of Anglo-Saxon people which fueled American imperialism.
Yellow Journalism
Sensationalism and exaggerated accounts used by newspapers to attract readers; often involved invented stories.
Spanish-American War
A conflict that lasted 113 days, fought between the US and Spain, primarily over issues related to Cuba.
De Lome Letter
A letter written by a Spanish minister criticizing President McKinley, which heightened tensions leading to the Spanish-American War.
Teller Amendment
A resolution adopted by Congress that stated once the US defeated Spain, they would give Cuban independence.
Rough Riders
A volunteer cavalry unit led by Teddy Roosevelt during the Spanish-American War, famous for their charge up San Juan Hill.
Treaty of Paris 1898
A treaty that ended the Spanish-American War, granting the US control of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines.
