Abdominopelvic cavity
A combined space of abdominal and pelvic cavities that contains organs from multiple systems.
Peritoneum
A thin serous membrane lining the abdominopelvic cavity, consisting of parietal and visceral layers.
Gastrointestinal tract
A long tube in the abdominopelvic cavity that includes the stomach, small and large intestines, and accessory organs.
Duodenum
The first section of the small intestine, curved around the head of the pancreas, measuring approximately 8 to 10 inches.
Gallbladder
A small organ that stores and concentrates bile produced by the liver.
Liver
The largest solid organ in the body, involved in metabolic processes and bile production.
Kidneys
Organs that filter blood, produce and secrete urine, playing a key role in homeostasis.
Spleen
An organ that filters blood, stores iron, and is part of the lymphatic system.
Adrenal glands
Small glands located above the kidneys, responsible for producing hormones like corticosteroids and epinephrine.
Urethra
The tube that carries urine from the urinary bladder to the outside of the body.
Cecum
The first part of the large intestine located in the right lower quadrant, where the appendix is attached.
Oogenesis
The process of egg (ovum) development in females.
Testosterone
The primary male sex hormone produced by the testes, important for male reproductive functions.
Corpora cavernosa
Two erectile tissues in the penis that expand to allow erection.
Rectum
The final section of the large intestine, leading from the sigmoid colon to the anus.
