Automatic nervous system
(ANS) controls involuntary bodily functions such as heart rate, digestion, and respiratory rate, and is divided into the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems.
Sympathetic nervous system
Fight or flight Increases heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate, dilates pupils, inhibits digestion, stimulates sweating.
Parasympathetic nervous system
Rest and digest Slows heart rate, lowers blood pressure, constricts pupils, stimulates digestion, promotes urination.
