Battle of Bull Run
Fought in Manassas, VA and won by the South/Confederacy; this was the first major battle of the war and where Stonewall Jackson earned his nickname.
Battle of Richmond
Also known as the Battle of Seven Days, it was fought in Richmond, VA and won by the South/Confederacy; it was an attempted invasion of the capital where McClellan was too cautious.
Battle of Antietam
Fought in Sharpsburg, MD and won by the Union/The North; it was the bloodiest one day in American history and allowed Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation.
Battle of Fredericksburg
Fought in Fredericksburg, VA and won by the Confederacy; the North lost after waiting too long for bridges to be built.
Battle of Chancellorsville
Fought in Chancellorsville, VA and won by the Confederacy; Stonewall Jackson was killed after this battle.
Battle of Gettysburg
Fought in Gettysburg, PA and won by the Union/The North; it was one of the turning points of the war, an attempted invasion of the north, and Lee chose not to attack Washington.
Battle of Vicksburg
Fought in Vicksburg, MS and won by the Union/The North; it gave the union control of the Mississippi River and is considered one of the turning points of the war.

A type of warfare that includes targeting civilian resources as well as military resources.

Leader of the Confederate Army.

A general in the Union Army described as being too cautious during the Battle of Richmond.
