What was the Revolt of the Northern Earls?
A Catholic rebellion led by the Earls of Northumberland and Westmorland aiming to free Mary, Queen of Scots and restore Catholicism. It failed; 800 rebels were executed.
What was the aim of the Ridolfi Plot?
To assassinate Elizabeth and replace her with Mary, Queen of Scots, supported by Spain and the Pope. Discovered by Cecil; Duke of Norfolk executed.
What happened in the Throckmorton Plot?
A plan for a French invasion funded by Spain and the Pope to put Mary on the throne. Throckmorton was executed; Mary placed under stricter confinement.
Why is the Babington Plot important?
A plot to assassinate Elizabeth and free Mary. Walsingham intercepted coded letters proving Mary’s involvement. Led to Mary’s execution in 1587.
