New cards
Parts of a Monomial
A^2 "A"= Base "^2"= Exponent
2
New cards
When multiplying monomials...
If they have the same base --> (A^2)(A^3), then you add the exponents, (A^2)(A^3)=A^5
3
New cards
When you have an exponenet on a monomial in a parentheses...
you multiply the exponents, -->(A^2)^2= (A^(2x2)= A^4
4
New cards
Another example with a number and a base connected.
(5A^2)^2= (5(2)+^(2x2)= 10^4

What is PEMDAS

Given two or more operations in a single expression, the order of the letters in PEMDAS tells you what to calculate first, second, third, and so on, until the calculation is complete.

P=Parentheses

E=Exonents

M=Multiplication--\

(In whichever one comes first),

D=Division --/

A=Addition --\

(In whichever one comes first)

S=Subtraction --/

6
New cards
If there is a number and an exponent inside parentheses with an exponent on the parentheses...
then the exponent on the outside doesn't apply to the big number on the inside because it is the base, not the coefficient.
7
New cards
when dividing, if there is a number as a base then you subtract the exponents and then solve -->
12^4/12^2= 12^2= 144
8
New cards
When dividing, if there is a coefficient and a base then you subtract the exponents, divide the coefficients, and then you will have your answer -->
12a^4n^3/12a^2n^2= 1a^2n^1= a^2n^1
9
New cards
anything to the power of zero equals...
one, m^0=1
10
New cards
when dividing, if there is a larger exponent on the bottom, meaning that it would be negative on the top, then you leave it on the bottom (ALWAYS) -->
8x^2y^-1 ALWAYS EQUALS 8x^2/y^1
