File Sharing
The practice of making files available to other users on a network.
Local Sharing
Sharing files and folders on the same local network without the need for the internet.
Network Sharing
Sharing files and folders across multiple computers within a network.
NTFS Permissions
File system level controls applied to files and folders for local and network users.
Share Permissions
Network level controls that apply specifically to users accessing shared folders.
Explicit Permissions
Access rights directly assigned to a specific file or folder, which take priority over inherited permissions.
Inherited Permissions
Access rights automatically passed down from a parent folder to its child objects.
Mapped Drive
A network drive that is assigned a drive letter for easier access by the user.
UNC Path
Universal Naming Convention path, a method used to access shared folders directly via network path.
Granular Control
The ability to specify detailed access rights, such as Full control, Modify, and Read & Execute.
