1) disobeying the state can result in its collapse
2) the state is like one’s parents and even if your parents treat you bad you still have a moral obligation to them to respect their rules ( like parents because they aid in development)
3) when you stay at the place, you also agree to its laws
MLK: if we are confronted with unjust laws, we may resist non-violently
1) just laws are consistent with gods laws
2) unjust laws are those that degrade and treat people as inferiors
3) just laws apply equally, unjust laws only apply to some
4) laws unjust whenever people are barred from political participation
5) laws unjust when applied unequally
Douglas: in some cases we can violently resist the state and state sanctioned actions
1) we can engage in violence if necessary to preserve our life and liberty
2) when individuals engage in heinous acts, they forfeit right to life and liberty
3) only use violence when we exhaust non-violent solutions
