Field of View
The visual space seen without moving the head, conceptualized as an imaginary cone with the eyes at the apex.
Vanishing Point
The point in the depth of the field of view where parallel lines appearing to recede from the viewer seem to meet.
One-point Perspective
A perspective drawing technique where all receding lines converge at a single vanishing point on the horizon line.
Atmospheric Perspective
A technique for creating depth by using color changes, texture shifts, and varying intensities of light and shadow between the foreground and background.
Half-shadow
Intermediate gray tones located between the brightest lit surfaces and the darkest areas of an object in a shadow.
B-level Pencils
Pencils categorized by their softness, which produce darker marks on paper with less pressure.
Medium (Solvent)
A solution mixed with raw paint to provide transparency, reduce thickness, and allow the paint to spread across a surface.
Linseed Oil
The primary solvent used for oil painting to dissolve and thin oil-based pigments.
Pictogram
Functional symbols and signs used to transfer information quickly, often found in signage, logos, or public directions.
Poster (E'lan)
A printed medium used for advertising or social messaging that combines images, text, and decorative elements to reach a large audience.
Layout (Safhe-araee)
The arrangement of text, images, and decorative motifs in a book, magazine, or advertisement to ensure clarity and beauty.
Environmental Graphic Design
Visual elements in a living space, such as maps, traffic signs, and wall murals, used for either beautification or providing information.
Photomosaic
A photographic presentation method where several photos are combined in a regular, grid-like arrangement.
Narrative Photography
A genre of photography where the photographer uses a set of multiple images to tell a story or report on real-life events.
Staged Photography
A style where the photographer controls every element of the image, including lighting, objects, people, and events.
Dastgah
The primary systems in the collection of Persian musical melodies, consisting of seven major structures and six smaller 'Avaz' structures.
Gosheh
The small, independent melodic pieces that are traditionally ordered to form a complete Dastgah in Persian music.
Nastaliq
Known as the 'Bride of Islamic Scripts,' this calligraphy style was formed in the 8th century by combining the Naskh and Ta'liq styles.
Chalipa
A calligraphy format where short texts, typically two or three verses of poetry, are written diagonally.
Bete-Jegheh
An ancient Iranian decorative motif symbolizing a bent cypress tree, pinecone, or bush, widely used in traditional arts like termeh and carpets.
Papier-mâché
A construction technique using layers of paper or paper pulp mixed with adhesive, common in creating lacquer-ware boxes and objects.
Zartoshti-duzi
A traditional Iranian embroidery style featuring motifs of trees, peacocks, and flowers, primarily using stem-stitching and small colored loops.
Pateh-duzi
A traditional needlework style from Kerman where woolen threads are used to fill stylized patterns on woolen fabric.
Mise-en-scène (Sahneh-bandi)
The logical and artistic arrangement of movement, actors, and props on a theater stage to make the performance believable.
Table-reading (Dor-khani)
The process of a theater group reading a play aloud together repeatedly to master dialogue, tone, and pacing before moving to stage blocking.
