Endemic
◦ Infectious disease that has steady frequency over a long period of time in a particular region
◦ Ex: Malaria
Common Source of Epidemics
◦Occur rapidly, many new cases immediately after initial case
◦Usually involves contaminated objects or food or water
◦Cases drop rapidly after source is identified and stopped
Host-to-host (propagated)
◦Grow slowly and subside slowly
◦Controlled by education, vaccination, antibiotics, hygiene, quarantine
Herd Immunity
When a certain proportion of a
population is vaccinated or already
immune to an infectious agent, an
