Is the process by which body maintains a stable internal environment, even when external conditions change
Stimulus
A change in the internal or external environment that affects the system
Increase in body temperature or rise in blood sugar
Receptor
A structure that detects the stimulus and sends information to the control center
Nerve endings in the skin or glucose-sensing cells in the pancreas
Control Center
The part of the system that processes information from receptors and determines the response
Hypothalamus or pancreas
Effector
A muscle, organ, or gland that carries out the instructions from the control center
Sweat glands, liver or blood vessels
Response
The action taken by the effector to counteract the stimulus and restore balance
Sweating to cool the body or cells absorbing glucose to lower blood sugar
