NAMPAP
National Master Plumbers Association of the Philippines, organized in 1935.
Republic Act No. 1378
The 'Plumbing Law of the Philippines,' signed by President Ramon Magsaysay on June 18, 1955.
Registered Master Plumber
A person technically and legally qualified and licensed to practice the profession of Master Plumbing in the Philippines without limitations.
Air Gap (Water Distribution)
The unobstructed vertical distance through the free atmosphere between the lowest opening from any pipe or faucet conveying potable water to the flood-level rim of any tank, vat, or fixture.
Backflow
The flow of water or other liquids, mixtures, or substances into the distributing pipes of a potable supply of water from any source other than its intended source.
Back-Siphonage
The flowing back of contaminated or polluted water from a plumbing fixture into a water supply pipe due to negative pressure in such pipe.
Fixture Unit (FU)
An arbitrary quantity in terms of which the load-producing effects on the plumbing system are expressed; one unit is equivalent to a rate of flow at 28.3liters/minute (1cu.ft/minute).
Flushometer Valve
A device which discharges a predetermined quantity of water into fixtures for flushing purposes and is actuated by direct water pressure.
Septic Tank
A water-tight receptacle which receives sewage, designed to retain solids, digest organic matter through detention, and allow liquids to discharge into the soil.
Trap
A fitting or device designed to provide a liquid seal which prevents the backflow of foul air without materially affecting the flow of sewage.
Sump
An approved tank or pit which receives sewage or wastewater and is located below the normal grade of the gravity system, requiring emptying by mechanical means.
Potable Water
Water satisfactory for drinking, culinary, and domestic purposes and meets the requirements of the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water.
Vertical Pipe
Any pipe or fitting installed in a vertical position or which forms an angle of not more than 45 degrees with the vertical line.
Developed Length
The length of a pipe along its centerline and fittings.
Administrative Authority
The Building Official, the Commission, or the Board authorized to administer and enforce the provisions of Republic Act 1378.
Permit Expiration
A plumbing permit becomes null and void if work is not commenced within one year from date of issuance or if work is suspended/abandoned for 120 days.
Standard Slope (Horizontal Drainage)
Horizontal pipes shall be run at a uniform slope of not less than 2% (20mm/m) toward the point of disposal.
Minimum Air Gap Size
Where potable water is discharged to the drainage system, the gap shall be at least two (2) pipe diameters and in no case less than 25mm.
Water Seal Depth
Each fixture trap shall have a water seal of not less than 51mm and not more than 102mm deep.
VSTR
Vent Stack Through Roof; the extension of a soil or waste stack above the highest horizontal drain connected to the stack, terminating in open air.
