Unicellular
Organisms that consist of one cell.
Multicellular
Organisms that consist of many cells.
Stimulus
A signal or change on environment they cause you to react or respond, such as getting hit causing you to cry.
Autotroph
An organism that makes its own food.
Heterotroph
An organism that gets food from others.
Protist
A simple organism that lives in moist places, has a nucleus, and is mostly one-celled.
Bacteria Characteristics
Tiny one-celled organisms that have no nucleus and reproduce quickly.
Bacteria Structure
Components include a cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm, DNA, and ribosomes.
Uses of Bacteria
Used to decompose waste, make yogurt, and produce medicine.
Virus
A tiny particle that reproduces inside cells; it is not a cell, needs a host to reproduce, and contains DNA or RNA.
Lytic cycle
A viral replication cycle that destroys the host cell.
Lysogenic cycle
A viral replication cycle where the virus stays inactive first.
Carl Linnaeus
The individual known as the father of classification.
Taxonomy
The science of classifying organisms by similarities and differences.
Vascular plants
Plants that possess xylem and phloem.
Nonvascular plants
Plants that do not have xylem and phloem.
Xylem
Plant tissue that carries water.
Phloem
Plant tissue that carries food.
Vertebrates
Organisms that possess a backbone.
Invertebrates
Organisms that do not have a backbone.
Fungus
An organism that absorbs nutrients; examples include yeast for bread and its use in creating antibiotics.
