Empathize
Define
Ideate
Prototype
Test
What is empathy?
Ability to understand and share/experience feelings of others. Comes first before defining the problem where we understand what the needs are.
Where do Empathy, Insights, Ideas, Solutions fall into in the following two categories; Abstract/Concrete and Problem Domain/Solution Domain?
Empathy - Concrete, Problem Domain
Insights - Abstract, Problem Domain
Ideas - Abstract, Solution Domain
Solutions - Concrete, Solution Domain
Difference between convergent and divergent thinking?
Divergent thinking is used to create choices and come up with ideas.
Convergent thinking is used to make choices and refine ideas.
What is the formula for insight?
Observation (noticing - what) + Inference (reasoning - why) = Insight
How to develop insight?
Immerse, observe and engage. Take on a beginner’s mindset.
What are needs?
Physical, psychological or cultural requirement that is missing or not met through existing solutions.
What is the purpose of the Empathy Map?
Tool used to get a deeper insight into customers to get you out of your head and into someone else’s. It shows what the user may:
Think & Feel
See
Hear
Say
Pains
Gains
What is the Define stage for in Design Thinking?
State the users’ needs and problems after analyzing observations gathered in Empathy stage. Defining the core problems results in problem statements using POV tables.
How are POV Tables used?
They ideate problem statements in a goal-oriented manner or an actionable problem statement. Three columns; User, Need, Insights that can then be turned into a problem statements.
