Why articles of confederation failed with government: 

Financial problems bc no authority to collect taxes=broke 

Interstate commerce= states putting tariffs on goods

Foreign relations: no way to stop Britain’s violations of term of peace and raised army 

Constitutional convention

strengthening government without too much power, separation of power (3 branches), checks and balances (limit power of other branches), federalism: power shared between federal and state government. 

The effects of winning the revolutionary war: 

-new colonial independence, up to Mississippi River as Western boundary 

-we gain economic independence (taxes, trading), also debt and wartimes paper currency 

-not massive social change immediately (social structure)

-many future rights movements took inspiration from ideals professed here Revolution ideals led to abolition movement mostly in North which abolished slavery, greater political democracy, right to vote and called for women equality. 

Shay’s Rebellion

•  due to articles of conned: many angry men seizing weapons, farmers protesting against the high taxes, debt collection, this uprising happened because of the articles of confederation since there was no one controlling the taxes, sparked movement to create a stronger government, US constitution
