Disclosing Agent
A coloring agent used to make Plaque Visible when applied to teeth.
Fluoride Varnish
A concentrated form of topical fluoride applied to teeth that are at high risk for developing Caries.
Preventive dentistry
The practice of caring for your teeth to keep them healthy, including the use of fluorides, application of dental Sealants, Proper nutrition, and Plaque control.
Systemic Fluoride
Fluoride that is ingested, such as in food, water, beverages, or supplements.
Topical Fluoride
Fluoride that is applied directly to the tooth through the use of tooth Paste and mouth rinses.
Baby Bottle Syndrome
The name for childhood decay caused by milk or sugary juice.
Dental Fluorosis
A dental condition resulting from too much fluoride, often caused by chronic overexposure in children younger than 6 years with developing teeth.
Bass method
The specific method of toothbrushing recommended for patients.
Dental Floss
A circular-shaped interdental aid used to remove bacterial plaque and reduce interproximal bleeding.
Dental tape
A flat-shaped cleaning aid used for interproximal plaque removal.
Pre-eruptive stage
The period before a tooth erupts where it is surrounded by a fluid-filled sac and strengthened by systemic fluoride.
Posteruptive stage
The period after a tooth erupts during which fluoride continues to enter the enamel.
1 Part Per million (PPM)
The safe and recommended concentration (1PPM) of fluoride in drinking water to aid in the control of dental decay.
Dental Sealants
A plastic-like coating applied over occlusal pits and grooves to protect difficult-to-clean surfaces from decay.
Sucrose
A type of sugar that has a greater decay-causing potential than other sugars.
End tuft brushes
Interdental aids consisting of soft nylon filaments formed into a narrow cone shape.
Bridge threaders
A dental device used to pass floss under a pontic (fake tooth).
Pontic
The term for a fake tooth used in a dental bridge.
Perio-aid
A handle with holes in the end designed to hold toothpicks.
Proxy brush
A brush used to remove biofilm between tooth and gum spaces.
ADA Seal of Acceptance
A quality assurance guarantee for consumers and professionals provided by the ADA Council on Dental Therapeutics.
