Supplies:

2 barrier towels

PPE/Drainage Bag – What is the FIRST step and where?

sanitize hands in hallway

PPE/Drainage Bag – After performing hand hygiene, what is the next step?

Unfold the gown.

PPE/Drainage Bag – After unfolding gown, what is the next step?

Place arms through each sleeve.

PPE/Drainage Bag – After placing arms through sleeves, what is the next step?

Secure the neck opening.

PPE/Drainage Bag – After securing the neck, what is the next step?

Secure gown at the waist (making sure back flaps cover clothing as completely as possible)

PPE/Drainage Bag – After securing gown at waist, what is the next step?

Put on gloves. (Cuffs of gloves must overlap the cuffs of the gown.)

PPE/Drainage Bag – After putting on gloves, what is the next step?

enter resident’s room

PPE/Drainage Bag – After entering resident’s room perform opening procedure

PPE/Drainage Bag – After doing opening procedure, what’s next?

Place a barrier on the floor under the drainage bag.

PPE/Drainage Bag – After placing barrier, what is the next step?

Place the graduate on the previously placed barrier.

PPE/Drainage Bag – After placing the graduate, what is the next step?

Open the drain to allow urine to flow into the graduate until the bag is completely empty. (Avoid touching the graduate with the tip of the tubing.)

PPE/Drainage Bag – After emptying the bag, what is the next step?

Close the drain.

PPE/Drainage Bag – After closing the drain, what is the next step?

Wipe the drain with an alcohol wipe AFTER emptying the drainage bag.

PPE/Drainage Bag – After wiping the drain, what is the next step?

Place the graduate on a level, flat surface with barrier towel

PPE/Drainage Bag – After placing graduate on flat surface, what is the next step?

With graduate at EYE LEVEL, measure the output.

PPE/Drainage Bag – After measuring output, what is the next step?

Empty and rinse graduate in toilet; dump, rinse, dump, rinse dry

PPE/Drainage Bag – After rinsing equipment, what is the next step?

Return equipment to storage.

PPE/Drainage Bag – After returning equipment, what is the next step?

Record the output in ml's on the previously signed recording form. (Must be within 25ml's of RN Test Observer's measurement.)

Place the call light

PPE/Drainage Bag – After placing call light, near the door, begin to ….

Remove gloves BEFORE removing gown (throw away gloves)

PPE/Drainage Bag – After disposing gloves, what is the next step?

Unfasten gown at the waist.

PPE/Drainage Bag – After unfastening gown at waist, what is the next step?

Unfasten gown at the neck.

PPE/Drainage Bag – After unfastening gown at neck, what is the next step?

Remove gown WITHOUT touching outside of the gown. Hold gown away from body, do not touch the floor, and roll gown away from body, dispose of gown

PPE/Drainage Bag – After disposing of gown, what is the next step?

Thoroughly handwash for 20 seconds
