Lesbian
A term categorized as a sexual orientation within the LGBTQIA2+ framework.
Gay
A term categorized as a sexual orientation within the LGBTQIA2+ framework.
Bisexual
A term categorized as a sexual orientation within the LGBTQIA2+ framework.
Transgender
A term categorized as a gender identity within the LGBTQIA2+ framework.
Queer or questioning
Terms that can refer to either sexual orientation or gender identity within the LGBTQIA2+ framework.
Intersex
A term categorized as relating to sexual biology within the LGBTQIA2+ framework.
Asexual
A term categorized as a sexual orientation within the LGBTQIA2+ framework.
2+ (two spirited)
A term categorized as a gender identity within the LGBTQIA2+ framework.
Natal sex
The sex identified at birth; identification typically happens at 2-3 years old.
Adaptive behaviors
Sexual behaviors expressed by respecting the rights and wishes of others and occurring between consenting adults.
Maladaptive behaviors
Sexual behaviors that involve harm to self and others in one or more capacities.
Gender identity categories
Includes terms such as 2+, Cisgender, Gender dysphoria, Gender expression, Genderfluid, Genderqueer, Nonbinary, and Transgender.
Male sexual dysfunctions
Category including delayed ejaculation, erectile disorder, male hypoactive sexual desire disorder, and premature (early) ejaculation.
Female sexual dysfunctions
Category including genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder, female orgasmic disorder, and female sexual interest/arousal disorder.
Paraphilic disorders
A group of disorders including exhibitionistic, fetishistic, frotteuristic, pedophilic, sexual sadism, sexual masochism, transvestic, and voyeuristic disorders.
Illegal Paraphilias
Exhibitionism, pedophilia, and voyeurism are specifically noted as illegal.
Compulsive sexual behavior
A behavior that may be used as a coping mechanism and can be treated with medications and psychotherapy.
Psychosexual assessment
A clinical process emphasizing client consent, client comfort level, and a focus on the 5 P’s.
