Define Angiogenesis

Vascularity benefits the Tumor
In the absence of vessel formation, tumor grows to only a limited size by nutrient diffusion
After angiogenesis, linear tumor cell growth accelerates to exponential growth
Blood vessels talk to the tumor and vice versa - communication

Steps in vessel formation

Normal vs Tumor Capillaries
Tumor vessels often have more endothelial cells than normal vessels - to sprout more vessels
Tumor vessels are often dilated and leaky [highly permeable]
contributes to high interstitial pressure in tumors
Tumor vasculature does not always follow normal organization
artery → arteriole → capillary → venule → vein
AV shunts and irregular, chaotic flow

What does angiogenesis controls

Angiogenic stimulatory factors

Angiogenic inhibitory factors

Tumor angiogenesis initiation

What are the therapeutic angiogenesis inhibitors

Define metastasis and list its characteristics

Understand the metastatic cascade`

What is the three step process of invasion

Other metastasis concepts

Hematologic Malignancies - Classification of leukemia (4)

the first part of the word tells you if it is acute or chronic and the second part tells you if it is myeloid or lymphoid
Lymphoma

How does multiple myeloma evolve and what is its end result if not treated?
