Haile-Selassie I
The Emperor of Ethiopia who ruled during the post-1941 imperial period and engaged in significant diplomatic relations with foreign powers.
Anglo-Ethiopian Agreement
Agreements signed in 1942 and 1944 that allowed Britain final authority over Ethiopia's foreign affairs and military.
British Occupied Enemy Territory (OETA)
Designation under which Ethiopia was considered following liberation from Fascist rule, leading to British influence.
Eritrean Federation
Result of the 1952 UN resolution that federated Eritrea with Ethiopia, later dissolved in 1962.
Mecha-Tulama Welfare Association (MTWA)
An association formed in 1963 aimed at improving the welfare of the Oromo people, later becoming a pan-Oromo movement.
Derg
The Provisional Military Administrative Council that took power in Ethiopia in 1974 after deposing Haile-Selassie I.
Eritrean Liberation Front (ELF)
A movement founded in the 1960s aiming for Eritrean independence from Ethiopia, evolved from earlier liberation movements.
Oromo Liberation Front (OLF)
Established to seek independence for Oromia and became one of the significant movements post-revolution.
Ethiopian National Liberation Front (ENLF)
A movement formed by Oromo elites in the early 1970s aimed at establishing an independent state.
Economic Development Plans
Series of five-year plans initiated by the Ethiopian government to modernize agriculture, manufacturing, and infrastructure.
