Simile
Compares two things using "like" or "as" to help readers picture something clearly.
Metaphor
A figure of speech that makes descriptions stronger and more dramatic, such as "Time is a thief" or "The classroom was a zoo".
personification
Giving human qualities to non-living things, such as "The wind whispered through the trees" or "The alarm clock yelled at me".
Hyperbole
A deliberate exaggeration used to add humour or emphasis, such as saying "I've told you a million times" or "This backpack weighs a ton".
