Haemodynamics
The study of blood flow and pressure in the circulatory system.
Shock
A critical condition resulting from inadequate blood flow, impairing oxygen delivery to tissues.
Oedema
Excess fluid accumulation in interstitial spaces or body cavities.
Hydrostatic Pressure
The pressure exerted by a fluid due to its weight.
Oncotic Pressure
The form of osmotic pressure exerted by proteins in blood plasma that tends to pull water into the circulatory system.
Transudate
A fluid with low protein content, few cells (non-inflammatory), typically seen in conditions like congestive heart failure.
Exudate
A fluid with high protein content and many inflammatory cells, indicative of inflammation.
Lymphatic System
A network responsible for draining excess interstitial fluid and returning it to the bloodstream.
Capillary Filtration
The process where fluid is pushed out of the capillaries due to hydrostatic pressure.
Fluid Accumulation
An abnormal build-up of fluids in body cavities or tissues, leading to conditions like effusions.
