Cold Bloods
Horses characterized as kind, easy-going, and heavy work horses, often used for farming and hauling heavy items. Examples include Shires, Percherons, Clydesdales, and Fresians.
Warm Bloods
Horses with a calm temperament, more agile than cold bloods, and used in various jobs like farming, work, show, sport, and leisure. Examples include Oldenburgs, Hanoverians, and Quarter Horses.
Hot Bloods
Intelligent, light-bodied horses known for speed and stamina, often seen in racetracks and endurance races. Examples include Arabians, Thoroughbreds, and Turkomen.
Mare
An adult female horse, typically referred to as a mare after about a year.
Stallion
An adult male horse, usually called a stallion when sexually mature, which can be as early as 2 years old.
Gelding
A castrated male horse, often done when they are young, around 8 months to a year.
Foal
A young horse, typically a baby.
Twitches
Tools used to distract and control horses during procedures, including skin, lip, and ear twitches.
Sedation
Chemical sedation used in handling horses for procedures, including drugs like Detomidine, Xylazine, and Acepromazine.
Farrier
Professionals who work on horses' feet, trimming them every 6 to 8 weeks, and addressing podiatry needs.
Vet Care
Essential care for horses, including vaccinations for diseases like EHV, Flu/Rhino, WNV, Tetanus, and Strangles, as well as Coggins tests for EIA.
Dentals
Dental care for horses, including floating teeth every 6 months to a year to grind down points and hooks for better chewing.
