Personality
Set of behavioural, emotional and cognitive tendencies that people display over time and across situations that distinguish individual from each other
Trait theory
Enduring, stable qualities - personality traits which are relatively consistent and exhibited across a range of situations. Traits exist in a contiuum
Gordon Allport (1897 - 1967)
Focused on words that describe people, developed the term “trait” and prosed central traits can affect our behavior
Raymond Cattell (1905 - 1998)
"All aspects of human personality which are or have been of importance, interest, or utility have already been recorded in the substance of LANGUAGE" - Cattell (1943)
Hans Eysenck (1916 - 1997)
Identified three personality dimensions: Extraversion, Neuroticism and Psychoticism
