Who was John Wilkes?

radical British MP, co editor of journal North Briton. Spoke out against King and Parliament in 1763 for corruption and was imprisoned. He fled to France. 1768 he returned to Britain and was sentenced to 22 years in prison. May 1768, 30,000 people protested outside of his jail for his freedom. He was elected to parliament 4 times whilst imprisoned.
