What is echogenicity?

appearance of the tissues on ultrasound, based on the ability of the tissues to reflect sound waves
› Refers to the ‘brightness’ of tissues that are being projected in B-mode

2
New cards

What is a cine loop?

Continuous feed that allows AOI to be observed over a period of time

3
New cards

What is B-mode?

B represents brightness of the intensity and speed of returning echo

  • 2D image, tissue classified as either hyper or hypoechoic

4
New cards

What is M-mode?

M represents motion

  • Displays motion over B-mode

  • Useful in eval of the heart, can determine thickness and diameter of ventricular wall

5
New cards

What is Doppler mode?

Images the flow of blood while measuring velocities

  • Blue = blood flow away from transducer

  • Red = blood flow toward transducer

Color, power color (sensitive to blood flow), pulse wave (small sample volume, peripheral), or continuous wave (high velocity blood flow)

6
New cards

What is harmonic mode?

Penetrating frequencies emitted into body w/ harmonic overtone

  • Helpful in obese patients

7
New cards

What does A FAST stand for?

Abdominal Focused Assessment w/ Sonography for Trauma

  1. Cavitary effusion

  2. Direct stabilization efforts

  • Pericardial, peritoneal, and pleural spaces

  1. Diaphragmatic-hepatic

  2. Splenorenal

  3. Cystocolic

  4. Hepatorenal

8
New cards

What are 3 transducer types?

  1. Linear - Fine detail, high resolution

  2. Convex - Wide, good for general scans

  3. Photo Array Sector - Cardiac studies

9
New cards

Difference between OFA and PennHip

  1. OFA = 2 years or older, Penn = 16 weeks

  2. OFA = not mandatory submission, Penn = mandatory

  3. OFA = VD extended ± sedation, Penn = VD extended, compression, distraction views + heavy sedation

  4. Penn = owned by Antech

New cards

What skull view is needed for brachycephalic breeds?

Better image for nasal cavity = closed mouth caudoventral to rostrodorsal oblique w/ hard palate tipped down 30 degrees

11
New cards

T/F The primary beam cannot be centered less than 10cm from the ground in equine/LA

True

12
New cards

T/F For oblique and lateral radiographic views in LA, the proximal end faces up and the dorsal side facing to the left

True

13
New cards

T/F Directional markers should be placed on the lateral aspect of the limb for DP and oblique views and the cranial side for lateral views

True

14
New cards

T/F The DMPLO and DLPMO views are aimed 45 degrees medially and laterally respectively

True
