What are two types of reflection?
Regular and diffuse
What are 3 types of mirrors?
Plane, Convex, and Concave
Which type of mirror always produce an image that is upright and reduced?
Concave
What causes a light ray to refract/bend?
A change in medium and speed
What are two types of lenses and how can you tell them apart?
Convex and Concave. Convex is curving outward and is thicker in the middle, Concave is curving inward and is thinner in the middle.
Which type of lens always produces an image that is upright and reduced?
Concave
What happens to light rays when they pass through a concave lens?
They scatter and spread
What happens to light rays when they pass through a convex lens?
they focus to the focal point
Define index of refraction
measure of how much a light ray bends when going from one medium into another.
What is a mirage
picture of a far away object made when light refraction happens in changing temperatures
Be able to identify parts of the eye with their description.
Cornea- transparent surface/lens on eye
Optic nerve- Carry signal from eye to brain
Retina- Layer of cells lining inside of eyeball
Lens- Behind pupils
Pupil- opening where light goes in eye
Iris- ring of muscle that changes the size of pupil
What does it mean to be farsighted?
seeing far things clearer and close things more blurry
what does it mean to be nearsighted?
Seeing close things clearer but far things more blurry
What kinds of objects do microscopes allow us to see better?
tiny objects
What instruments allow us to see distant objects?
Telescopes
Review diagrams in textbook
1: they meet at focal point and one of the images in flipped and smaller
2: convex focuses the light and concave spreads it
