What is the cell theory
The cell theory states that all living organisms are composed of one or more cells, making them the fundamental building blocks of life. Cells are made up of other cells.
Ribosomes
Protein synthesis (2 types Free, and Bound)
Cytoplasm
Gel like fluid which fills the inside of the cell which is a medium of where ribosomes and reactions take place
Cell Membrane
The biological barrier that separates the interior of a cell from the outside environment
Lysosomes
A membrane bound organelle that contains digestive enzymes acting as a waste disposal
Microtubules
They act as conveyor belts
Golgi Body
Is the shipping and handling part of the cell, it receives proteins modifies them, packages them into vesicles and sends them to the final destination
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Functions as the cellular factory which folds modifies and transports proteins
Nucleolus
It acts as the ribosome factory
Nucleus
Acts as the cell’s brain which stores DNA
Hooke, Robert
His contribution happened in 1665. Hooke examined a thin slice of cork, he claimed the term cell, and even published his drawings in his book called Micrographia.
Antonie van Leeuwenhoek
The first scientist to observe and describe living single celled organisms
Schleiden, Matthias
Established cells are the basic building blocks of plant wall
Virchow, Rudolf
Established all cells come from pre-existing cells
Schwann, Theodor
Established all living things are composed of cells
What are the 2 cell types
Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic
What is a eukaryotic cell?
A membrane bound nucleus and other specialized organelles
What is a prokaryotic cell?
A simple single celled organism that lacks organelles
Where is the DNA located in a prokaryote?
It’s found in the cytoplasm
Where is the DNA found in a eukaryote?
It’s found in the nucleus
What 3 organelles are unique to the plant cell?
The large central vacuole, Chloroplast, and the cell walll
What are unique organelles that belong to the animal cell
Centrioles, lysosomes, and small vacuoles
What is a cell
The fundamental structural and functional unit of all living things.
