Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
A regulatory body that ensures physical, social, and psychological needs of individuals are assessed and prioritized in nursing practice.
Normative Need
A need based on a standard set by experts or professionals, such as daily recommended intake of specific nutrients.
Perceived Need
An individual's own assessment of their needs or requirements.
Expressed Need
The manifestation of felt needs that result in actions.
Comparative Need
A need assessed based on the characteristics of a population to identify future service users' needs.
Hierarchy of Needs
A motivational theory proposed by Maslow, stating that needs at the base of the pyramid must be satisfied before higher-level needs can be addressed.
Assessment
The first step of the nursing process, involving the gathering of objective and subjective data.
Evaluation
The final step of the nursing process, which involves reviewing the effectiveness of the implemented interventions.
