Anti-Semitism

Hostility to or prejudice against Jewish people

Aryan

A mythical blonde hair, blue eyed race of people that the Nazis claimed were superior to other races.

Concentration Camp

A prison camp for people that have not commited a crime, but the society feels must be seperated from the general population.

Discrimination

The unjust treatment of people based upon ethnic background, age, or sex.

Fascism

A dictatorship in which the nation is prioritized over individual people and their freedoms.

Fuhrer

Leader in Germany. The title Adolf Hitler gave himself

Genocide

The murder of a grouf of people based upon ethnicity or other percieved difference with the aim of destroying that group

Gestapo

The Nazi secret police

Ghetto

Sections of cities in which the Nazis forced the entire Jewish populations of the surrounding area to live

Holocaust

The murder of aprozimitley 12 million people by the Nazi goverment in the 1930s and 1940s

Kristallnacht

An organized pogrom against German Jews during the night of November 9-10, 1938

Lebensraum

¨Living space¨ The Nazi Belief that the German people needed more territory in which to live comfortably(to be taken from other countries).

Nazi

The National Socialist German workers party. Adolf Hitlers politicial party.

Pogrom

Organized acts of violence againest Jewish communities

Prejudice

Predudjing people without sufficient knowledge, often based on stereotypes.

Ration

A fixed amount of something allowed to a person during a time of shortage

Scapegoat

A person blamed for something they are not responsible for.

Segregation

Keeping a person(s) apart from others.

SS- Schutzstaffel

Nazi(as opposed to German soldiers). The SS carried out the Holocaust

Stereotype

An oversimplified belief about a group of people without taking into consideration individual differences.

A long, narrow, deep inlet of the ocean

Imperialism

Having control(or in some cases just influence)over people and territory outside your own country. Having colonies. Having an empire.

Economic activity centered around manifacturing

Industrialization

The process of moving from an agrarian to a manufacturing(factory based) economy.

Loom

A machine for making fabric from yarn or thread.

Manufacturing

Building or creating something using machinery

Mass Production

The ability to make a large number of a single item or of many items in a short amount of time(generally in a factory rather than by hand)

Mechanize

The process in which machines take over work from people or animals

Militarism

Glorifying the military in a society and modeling the society after the military

Monotonous

Boring and repetitive

Morse Code

A code in which letters are represented by long and short signals of light or sound.

Nationalism

Putting your own countries interests about everything else. Super patriotism. Belief that your country, people are better than others. ¨Anything you can do, I can do better. Why? Because I am (insert name of nationality here).

Ore

A solid material in the earth from which a metal can be extracted.

Productivity

The amount of work that can be done in a given amount of time. ¨I am more productive when I do my homework with my phone turned off¨.

Reparation

Repayment for something you did wrong. ¨You break it, you buy it.¨

Rural

Countryside or pertaining to the countryside

Taiga

A band of configuerous (pine) forests in northern latitudes just south of the tundra

Tedious

Long, slow and dull

Telegraph

A system of transmitting messages(generally morse code)over a long distance along a wire.

Textile

Cloth or pertaining to the production of cloth

Trench

A long narrow ditch. Soldiers in WWi faced off each other in trenches for protection

Tundra

Vast treeless lands found in the Artic
