Dispute Resolution Process

1. Listening to staff

Listening to staff concerns (usually with management or HRM)

2. Negotiation

Discussions between the parties result in a compromise and a formal or informal agreement about a dispute

3. Mediation

Confidential discussion of issues in a non threatening environment, in a presence of a neutral, objective third party who helps the parties in dispute to work towards a agreement, but dos not offer suggestions or solutions.

4. Conciliation

A process that occurs when a third party participates in the resolution of a dispute and attempts to resolve the differences through discussion

5. Arbitration

A means of dispute resolution involving a independent third party (such as a commissioner of the Fair Work Commission) hearing both arguments in a dispute and determining the outcome
