Social Areas of Protection
Five key areas where discrimination is prohibited: services, accommodation, contracts, employment, and membership in associations.
Prohibited Grounds of Discrimination

Race

Age
Age categories that have special considerations under the Code, such as 18-65 for employment.
Marital Status
Including cohabitation, widowhood, separation, and same-sex partnership.
Employment Exceptions
Circumstances under which discrimination may be allowed, such as hiring within a religious group.
Accommodation
The process of adjusting a job or work environment to enable a person to perform their duties.
Family Status
Refers to the relationship between parents and children.
Record of Offences
Refers to provincial or pardoned federal offences that may affect employment opportunities.
Receipt of Public Assistance
Eligibility for housing assistance based on public aid.
Human Rights Legislation

Freedom of Expression
The right to express one's beliefs, which can conflict with the rights of others in cases of discrimination.
