Can you please state your name for the record?
Avery Larson
Ms. Larson, what’s your current profession?
Currently, I’m a professional songwriter and DJ
Have you always worked as a DJ?
Nah, I was a struggling artist for a while before I made it. I worked hard and lived in bedbug
How did you become involved in today’s case?
I was subpoenaed, but I am not sure why, there is much involved in the case that I am unfamiliar with.
Ms. Larson, you mention that you were not familiar with much in the case. Do you know what the Glenbauer Country Club is?
Yes, but only because of today’s case. I had never heard of it before.
Have you had any relations with the club?
No
Do you know Devon Harris?
no
Are you familiar with Tony Kissner?
No
Are you familiar with Skylar Sinclair?
Well yes actually, he was the only one in the witness list I was familiar with. I worked with him when I was managing Chuggies Dive Bar.
Now, Ms. Larson, how are you familiar with Mr. Sinclair?
Well, as I mentioned before, I worked at Chuggies Dive Bar as a manager. And this is where I met Skylar. Skylar at the time was a new employee.
Was there anything of note from when he first came on as an employee?
Well, Skylar did supposedly had a dark past, being in trouble with the law or something, but you wouldn’t know it from talking to him. He was super easy to talk to and always ready to learn. And thank goodness, because there was a lot to learn. the first time I asked him to make a long island ice tea he asked me where the kettle was.
Now as part of the job, besides making drinks, did Mr. Sinclair interact with customers at all?
Oh for sure, he was certainly a customer favorite! iHe eventually made really good drinks and was extremely eager to please. He was kind to a fault–I once lost track of him during a shift and found him outside changing a customer’s oil.
How was Skylar’s overall performance as an employee?
His drinks were good, he was amazing with people–but he certainly wasn’t a perfect employee. In all his efforts to please, he developed a habit of breaking the rules to please customers. The owner's patience was especially tested when Skylar started to disobey the bar’s health and safety standards.
What health and safety standards did he break?
If there’s any rule I went over and over in training, it was not letting customers behind the bar. Like, there’s even a little sign about it. It’s unsafe and unsanitary, but Skyler, one time, decided to let a customer in as a birthday VIP.
Did he face any consequences for that?
Nothing serious, just a warning. I was suuper annoyed though, and although he tried to make the excuse that “doing you job well means breaking the rules sometimes” he eventually got the hint after I helped him realize the danger stuff like that posed to his job, and more importantly the customers. Or at least he did for a while
What happened?
Well, Skyler kind as always, let a a sob story get the best of him and gave a kid without an ID a beer–and ended up serving an undercover cop. It was a hard decision to fire him, but the boss insisted after seeing the fine the bar got.
Why was it such a difficult decision to fire Mr. Sinclair?
Well, despite making a really stupid choice, Skylar was such a good kid and frankly a great bartender other than the rules thing.
What effect did this interaction have on your relationship with Skyler?
For years, I worried that he hated me, but when we met again years later while I was picking up dry-cleaning. He was holding a fancy black uniform when he saqw me, gave me a big hug, and we caught up for a bit
What was your conversation about?
I was finally making real money off of music, and so we talked about that, but I really wanted to know what the suit was for. So, I learned that he was working as a bartender at a country club, but was also being trained to do some other stuff as well.
What other stuff did he do?
A bunch of little things–chlorinating pools, folding paper swans, and maintenance.
What kind of maintenance?
He did some work on fixing the bowling alley there. I was curious about the details because I wanted one in my mansion, so I tried to get him to tell me the specifics
What specifics did he give?
Frankly, not a lot. He said that a guy named Tony did most of the work and he filled in when Tony was too drunk. A bit concerning, but what I remember for sure is that Skyler specifically said any job would be okay as long as the machine was turned off first.
What else did you ask him?
Of course, I had to know if his new manager was as good as I was. Obviously, nobody is, and the new girl Devon seemed tough. But Skylar assured me that although she pushed the team hard, it was just to make sure the customers were happy. And we all know that Skylar was good at doing that.
Were you able to see him again after this?
No. I’m so glad that I saw him so happy that day. I thought maybe life was turning around for him. I was crushed when I heard he died. I’d like to think his spirit, his generous to a fault spirit, lives on in the songs I wrote about him.
