One dispositional factor that could affect obedience level; however, research in this has been inconclusive. When Milgram conducted his original study with women, he found that there was actually no difference in the obedience levels observed. The only difference he did find was that women experienced a higher level of anxiety when administering the shocks compared to men. Burger also found there to be no statistically significant difference in gender and obedience levels in his replication of the original 1963 study

In a variation of Milgram’s study however, when Sheridan and King asked participants to administer shocks to a live puppy, they found that women were much more compliant. This therefore demonstrates how the relationship between gender and obedience is unclear
