Analysis
A means of examining elements of an issue to gain understanding and select a course of action.
Structural Analysis Tool
A method for examining components or elements of an organization or system to discover their interrelationships and importance.
Social Structure
The framework of societal institutions and social practices that establish limits on behavior within a society.
Status
A socially defined position in a group or society, having attached roles.
Role
The expected behavior associated with a particular status.
Ascribed Status
A social position based on attributes over which the individual has little or no control.
Achieved Status
A social position assumed due to personal choice, merit, or effort.
Master Status
The most important status that a person occupies.
Exchange
Interacting to receive a reward or return for one's actions.
Competition
Opposition between two or more parties to achieve a goal that only one can attain.
Conflict
A deliberate attempt to control or harm another person.
Cooperation
When two or more parties work together to achieve a mutual goal.
Accommodation
A balance between cooperation and conflict.
Structural Functionalism
A theory that sees society as a complex system where parts work together for solidarity and stability.
Problem Tree Analysis
A method to map out causes and effects surrounding an issue to find solutions.
SWOT Analysis
A strategic planning tool used to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
Gender Tracking Analysis
A tool to examine differences in roles and power between men and women.
Gender Equity
Fairness in the distribution of responsibilities and benefits between genders.
Gender Equality
Absence of discrimination based on sex in opportunities and resources.
Patriarchy
A social system where women are considered second-class citizens and men hold superiority.
Stakeholder Analysis
A process to identify individuals or groups with an interest in the outcome of a project.
