Covariance

is an extension of this idea for 2 variables. (negative/positive)

Correlation

is a scaled version of covariance, and is always between -1 and 1

Coefficient of Determination

proportion of Y’s variability explained by X.

confounding variable

a third variable (say Z) that is in part or wholly responsible.

spurious correlation

between variables X and Y is where a statistical correlation exists, but there is no substantive connection between the two.

Consequentialism

An action is right or wrong based on its consequences.

Deontology

An action is right or wrong based on the action itself (not the consequences).

Virtue ethics

An action is right or wrong based on how it corresponds with the kind of person you want to be.

Care ethics

An action is right or wrong based on how much it shows care and compassion to the needs of others.
