Polyatomic Ion
A group of atoms that acts as a single ion.
Ionic Compounds
Compounds made up of ionic bonds formed from the transfer of electrons, typically between a metal and a nonmetal.
Covalent Compounds
Compounds made up of covalent bonds formed from the sharing of electrons, typically between nonmetals.
Example of Ionic Compounds
NaCl, KJ, Li,N.
Example of Covalent Compounds
CO2, N2O5, P2O5, CH4.
Acids
Compounds formed from the reaction of hydrogen with another compound, typically written with H first in the formula.
Hydrates
Compounds that include water molecules in their structure, denoted by H2O in the formula.
Example of Acids
HCl, H2SO4, HNO2.
Example of Hydrates
CuSO4·5H2O, CoCl2·6H2O.
