the show is entertaining for audiences as the crime genre is very popular as it contains action, mysteries, excitement and conflict etc.
many enjoy the visual spectacle of the period settings, costumes, hair and makeup
how else could the show be good for audiences
it could be education for some teaching them about life in that period and area. it educated audiences about the real gang that the show is based on. many audiences enjoy true crime / biographical dramas

educated intelligent or cultured audiences might respond well to this, as will working class audiences or those who lives in those areas who could relate to the content
