Reagent
A substance or mixture used in a chemical reaction to detect, measure, or produce other substances.
Grignard Reagent
Organometallic compounds of the form R-MgBr or R-Li used to form carbon-carbon bonds.
PCC
Pyridinium chlorochromate, a reagent used for the oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes or ketones.
Reducing Agents
Substances that donate electrons or reduce the oxidation state of another species in a chemical reaction.
Williamson Ether Synthesis
A method to synthesize ethers from an alkoxide and a primary alkyl halide.
Oxidation of Alcohols
The process of converting alcohols to carbonyl compounds (aldehydes or ketones) or further to carboxylic acids.
Epoxidation of Alkene
A reaction that converts an alkene into an epoxide by using a reagent like MCPBA.
Radical Addition
A mechanism that involves the addition of radicals to alkenes, following anti-Markovnikov rules.
Anti Addition
A mechanism where substituents add to opposite sides of a double bond, often observed in reactions involving alkenes.
Halogenation of Alkanes
A radical substitution reaction where alkanes react with halogens (Br₂ or Cl₂) in the presence of heat or light.
